Fenchurch Street was built in 1854 for London and Blackwall Railway and was the first station to be built in the City. The present building is the second, replacing the smaller original terminus which stood in the Minories. It was built to accommodate the trains of the London Tilbury and Southend Railway, as well as those of the London and Blackwall Railway. Today c2c operate trains from Shoeburyness and travel through the towns of Southend, Basildon, Upminster and Barking and into London Fenchurch Street.
