The
shows based on Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the
West and based upon Gregory Maguires novel to L. Frank Baums The
Wonderful Wizard of Oz. After a few changes, Winnie Holzmans book tells
the tale of the witches of Oz, Elphaba and Glinda who later become the
Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch and how these two
friends came to fill the roles they are known for. The original music
and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (who wrote music and lyrics of the 1971
classic musical Godspell) include huge dance numbers, touching ballads
and soaring, powerful vocal performances that not only carry the plot
effectively but stand as excellent listening on their own. Wicked truly
is a show for everybody; a story of friendship, equality, love,
politics, good and evil that appeals to all ages, fantastic music and
visual effects that defy belief - and gravity! |
